Blurb: When Joss McMillan witnesses his sister’s murder–at the hands of a vampire–his whole life changes. He learns that not only is his family part of the Slayer Society, a group whose mission is to rid the world of vampires, but he is their new recruit. As Joss trains he discovers powers that could make him the youngest, strongest Slayer in history. But there is a traitor in the Society, one whose identity would shake Joss to the core . . . if the traitor doesn’t kill him first.
Review: This was surprisingly good. I admit that I have gotten pretty skeptical when it comes to YA vampire books, but I was hooked almost from the first sentence. Way to go, Heather Brewer, you’ve made me curious about the Vlad Tod series.
Usually, with YA novels, I’m pretty much rolling my eyes from the get go, there’s just so much cheesy stuff going on and the special snowflakes just throw me off my reading groove.
I really had no such problems until some accusations went flying around and even that was addressed by the author, so I was more so mad at the characters and not the writing. Joss, I have to admit, was a little slow when it came to realizing some things and the slayers weren’t all that bright either. The ending seemed a little lazy in the writing aspect of it, but I am curious to move on to the next book.
Thank you for reading my review.
