Blurb: A gripping, gritty, action-packed crime thriller ripped from today’s headlines in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Beyond the beautiful beaches and elegant hotels lurks the squalor and crushing poverty of Rio’s notorious favelas. It is a dangerous, exotic world governed by a different set of laws and shaped by contrasts — beauty, violence, power, poverty, protection, corruption, faith and drugs. Here, in the slums of Rio, thousands of poor people face horrific choices every day. It’s no exception when sixteen-year-old Rio street kid Lucas Rocha meets Daniel Burke, a Brazilian-American businessman visiting from Boston. When Lucas snatches Daniel’s wallet in an act of desperation, it sets in motion a series of catastrophic events, and the lives of these two strangers become permanently … and dangerously … entangled. Facing down Rio’s powerful drug lords, both Lucas and Daniel are hell-bent to beat the odds and make things right. But what is right in a world filled with wrong?

Review: I got 31% of the book read and just couldn’t do it anymore. I was just so bored that I was watching The Simpsons more than reading this. The blurb makes it sound very interesting but, it’s another case of don’t judge a book by its cover.

The only reaction that I really had to anything was when the big brother died and no, I’m not spoiling anything with that because Goodreads has a blurb on this book that says the brother dies.

The cover is colorful and eye catching and the blurb does catch your attention but that’s about it for the good parts. The pace is super slow and it feels like it takes forever to get to the point. The descriptions were detailed but I couldn’t care less about the company that Daniel worked for and I’m skipping over the dates along with most of the descriptions because it was just so boring and slow.

I put it down and I really have no desire to pick it back up. I’m sure other readers might enjoy this but, I’m not one of them. This was supposed to be a crime mystery but so far, I’ve only seen the crime part of it. It isn’t my cup of tea and I wouldn’t be the one to recommend this to anyone.

Thank you for reading my review.
