I was on Facebook and I saw a little ad for this book so, I decided to take a look because it was free, who doesn’t love a free book? I did a bit of looking around before reading this book though because I’m not really a fan of old time novels. Looking at the reviews on goodreads, it’s mostly 1 or 2 stars but I thought, it can’t be that bad, I’ll give it a try. If you put any stock into reviews at all, you can trust the reviews on those and this one. I couldn’t even finish it.
Goodness this book is just bad, I’m sorry but oh my goat. The Earl is a jackass who doesn’t listen to any reason and sticks like glue to his own presumptions and Claire, instead of being an adult and trying to talk to him, trying her hardest to prove what he thinks happen didn’t happen, she grumbles and acts like a child throwing a temper tantrum.
Then, even though this sham of a marriage is mostly her father and sisters fault, she’s still super loyal to them. Her father says sorry and that’s it? Her sister also makes me mad. I can kind of understand wanting to marry someone with a title in that time period but she is just a spoiled brat. She goes shopping with her sister and even though Claire tells her to watch it, she goes wild with her sisters husbands money. Claire could have put her foot down but she hardly even tries and then when she tells him about it, he gets angry and thinks it’s all her.
Most of the book is them basically hating each other, there’s no connection with the characters at all. There’s no getting to know the characters either, it’s just top surface stuff, it’s all just tedious and repetitive mostly. If you like these types of books, go right ahead but beware of a lot of hate and childish behavior.
Thank you for reading my review.
