Now then, this is three novellas in one book and the four stars is my rating for all of them together, though I did review the books as separate. So, instead of lumping them together and just reviewing the book as a whole, I’m going to review them as separate, as I wrote them. Well, except one of them

That rating is pretty much all I’m going to say about this book. Since it’s the 27th in the saga, I’m going to review it fully when I re-read and review the books before it. I will say this, it was amazing.

I’ve read two other books by Maggie Shayne, Eternity and Twilight Guardians, and so far, I have not been disappointed. She knows how to keep things interesting and fresh. I mean, those two books I mentioned are so different, you would think a different author wrote one of them.
With this being a halfway book after Twilight Guardians and a rather short novella, I was pleasantly surprised at what I read. It didn’t feel as short as it was, I felt like I was reading a full novel. The writing is simply beautiful and while I’ve given her other books four stars, this one is definitely deserving of five stars.
One thing that I didn’t like about it was a foot thing while they were trying to find the killer. It’s just a personal thing with me, I can’t stand anything to do with feet but it was a quick little thing that the author didn’t dwell on so, I didn’t want to take away a star because of it.

Now we get to the reason behind the four stars for the book itself since I’ve given the first two five stars. I thought four stars would be a nice middle. Anyways, onward to the review for this book.
I was slightly disappointed in this book. After reading the other two, I was expecting more action or something but, with the exception of the love interest being a vampire, it’s just a regular romance.
Now I could blame it on it being such a short novella but, that’s not going to happen because it would be a downright lie. The book before it, Dead by Twilight, is just as short, if not shorter, and it’s got plenty of action.
Maybe the author just isn’t used to writing short stories? I don’t know but if I wasn’t so used to paranormal romance having some action mixed in to make it even more exciting, I probably would have liked it a bit more.
Maybe the second book will be better since it’s longer, though not by much.
I liked the story just fine but I wasn’t really impressed and with it being such a short book, I thought the relationship should have happened faster than it did. It mainly focused on the physical feelings it seemed and she was having to choose between a normal life or life with a vampire so, the wasn’t much connecting going on.
Thank you for reading my review.
